Media Freedom Coalition, the Embassy of Germany in Stockholm, the Embassy of Estonia in Stockholm, and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Stockholm in collaboration with International IDEA invite you to a panel discussion on Media Literacy and Elections.

During the 2024 super-election year, billions of individuals worldwide are exercising their voting rights, prompting contemplation on the implications for democracy. Against the backdrop of a global erosion of democratic values, manifested in declining measures of credible elections, effective parliamentary systems, and disinformation, this year presents both challenges and opportunities. As the democratic landscape faces unprecedented strains, the forthcoming elections offer a potential catalyst for renewal and innovation in electoral processes. The nexus between media literacy, disinformation, and elections becomes increasingly vital as we navigate these complexities, underscoring the importance of informed citizenry in shaping the future of democratic governance. Media literacy is crucial for fostering electoral integrity as well as empowering citizens to critically engage with information and contribute to the resilience of democratic processes.

In celebration of World Press Freedom Day and the 5th founding anniversary of the Media Freedom Coalition, please join us for a panel discussion on Media Literacy and Elections. The event seeks to address the challenges posed by disinformation campaigns during elections and the importance of media literacy in combatting disinformation.
