What will Ukrainian Democracy in a post-oligarch era look like?

International IDEA’s Sam van der Staak spoke about the Euromaidan revolution as panelist at the annual Ukrainian School of Political Studies conference in Kiev.

Gathering more than 100 Ukrainian and international participants from the realms of politics, civil society and the corporate sector, the conference took the pulse of Ukraine’s democracy three years after ‘Euromaidan’. Ukraine has the ingredients for a popular anti-corruption political movement, van der Staak analyzed. But if it wants to follow other European countries that have similar political movements, citizens will first have to set the example and reject petty corruption in everyday life.
