With nearly 2 billion voters expected to head to the polls, 2024 has been dubbed a ‘super election year’. In fact, over the next 12 months, more than 70 countries will head to a presidential, legislative, or subnational election. Among them are seven out of ten of the world’s most populous countries, including India, the United States, Indonesia, Pakistan, Russia, and Mexico. Similarly, in South Asia, five out of its eight countries have held/are also planning to hold elections in 2024.
This Brief presents some findings on the Summit for Democracy process from the perspective of participating countries based on a selected number of interviews with representatives from the governments of six countries (Germany, Lithuania, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Zambia) and the European Union (European External Action Service).
The Government of the Republic of Zambia, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), in commemoration of the International Day for Democracy 2023, organized a series of events under the title East and Southern Africa Regional Governance Forum.
Los días 18 y 19 de marzo de 2023, la Oficina de Túnez de IDEA Internacional organizó un Concurso de Tribunales Simulado sobre la cláusula de limitación de derechos y libertades de la Constitución tunecina y el principio de proporcionalidad.
Túnez se unió a IDEA Internacional como el 33.° estado miembro de la organización. El Consejo de Estados Miembros se reunió en Estocolmo el 2 de diciembre de 2019 para tomar dicha decisión. De esta forma, Túnez es el primer estado miembro de la región del norte de África en unirse al Instituto.
