The Dutch Chairship of International IDEA in 2023 culminated in the second bi-annual Council of Member States meeting and a set of side events, organized on 30 November and 1 December 2023 at the Institute’s headquarters in Stockholm and online. In its role as the Chair of the Institute, the Netherlands was supported by the Vice Chairs Ghana and Chile.

Significant progress has been made in democratizing politics and governance in Haiti during the past two decades. Several challenges however, including extreme poverty, wide economic inequalities, weak democratic institutions and a polarized political landscape remain. Opposition political parties and citizens often express their frustrations through protests, which regularly degenerate into violence.
This year’s International Women’s Day’s theme, “Be Bold for Change”, is a call to forge a better working world - a more gender inclusive world. In particular, it calls for groundbreaking action that truly drives the greatest change for women.
